If you're on my Discord server, you may have noticed my status is quite often set to "Playing Folding@Home"... so, what is it?
Folding@home is a distributed computing project, kinda similar in concept to cryptocurrency mining, except that you can use your computer to assist in medical research and development! You can learn more about how your computer can help scientists here!
It doesn't matter how new or powerful your computer is - everything helps! Setting up the folding@home client only takes a few seconds and is painless and secure. You can set when/how intensive you want to fold and see how many points you've earned in real-time!
I currently have two PCs with GPUs folding 24/7, and sometimes fold with my personal gaming rig when I'm not busy (and it's not too hot, lol). You can track my folding progress, or your own, using folding.lar.systems website!
